- Determine course material needed
Books and materials costs and special fees appear at the bottom of each course listing. Our prices are comparable to other sources, and we stock less-expensive used books whenever possible. If you think you may have the book already or would like to purchase it elsewhere, contact Independent Study for more information about the textbook. (While the costs of books and study materials vary, all courses have a Course Syllabus charge of $30.)
- Tuition rates
Tuition for our university courses is $135.00 per credit hour. The last digit in the course number is the credit-hour award, unless noted otherwise. For example, Chemistry 3053 is a three-credit-hour course.
- Shipping and handling
If we mail your course materials to you, you will be charged a $15 shipping fee per course. Foreign airmail service is $50 per enrollment (or course). Express mail and fax services are available on a per-usage fee basis. All of our print-based courses have an additional $50.00 handling fee added.
- Academic records fee
The University of Oklahoma charges students a $15 academic records fee each term regardless of the number of courses taken. This fee entitles a student to free transcripts for life.
- Connectivity fee
The University of Oklahoma charges students a $14.80-per-credit-hour connectivity fee.
- Academic Excellence fee
An additional Academic Excellence fee is charged by the university. This fee varies depending on date of initial enrollment. First time students are charged $54.70 per credit hour. Students enrolled between August 1, 2008 and July 31, 2009 will be charged a $52.70 per hour. Students enrolled between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 will be charged a $41.70 per hour. Students enrolled between August 1, 2005 and July 31, 2007 will be charged a $21.70 per hour and students enrolled before August 2005 will be charged a $11.70 per hour.
- Signature
OU students must obtain signed permission from the office of the dean of their college. If you are not an OU student, you do not need a signature, but make sure before enrolling that you will be able to apply the credit to your degree plan.
- Payment methods
Payment is due at the time of enrollment. Attach a check or money order payable to the University of Oklahoma or fill in the VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express information. If you are an OU student, we can bill your OU bursar account.
The total amount due is the tuition fee plus the cost of books and materials, handling, shipping, OU fees, and any other special fees (check individual course listings). The books, if you order them from us, will be sent with your enrollment completion form, your Study Guide, envelopes, and all other course materials (in the case of online courses, they will be sent when your account is set up). Although you do not have to purchase your books from us, we do require that you have the approved text.
Foreign students should arrange to pay fees in U.S. dollars by an international money order or a bill of exchange drawn on a U.S. bank. Overpayments in excess of $3 will be refunded; underpayments will be billed.
The costs of books, and all other prices, are subject to change without notice. The regulations on this page are current only at the time of publication and are subject to change. The University of Oklahoma reserves the right to modify any statement by university or state action.
